25 Things About Me
So I kind of missed out on the "25 things about Me" note that was going around facebook because I was giving birth to my beautiful child. I thought it might be cool so Averie knows what a huge dork her mom was at the time she was born. I wonder if she will even know what Facebook is or if it will go the way of 45s and LPs (whatever those were)
1. I have only dated one boy in my entire life. We started out at 15 years old and somehow through the years knew we were the ones for each other. When we are 30 we will have been together for 1/2 our lives. I don't advocated child marriage or even high school sweethearts getting married but hey, its worked out pretty good for us so far :)
2. The only thing I have ever wanted to be is a wife and mommy. I remember having weddings using with nuts and bolts from the spare screw jar when I was little and practicing my wedding march down the sidewalk outside our house. I also remember turning our couch in to a bus and putting my babies in the backseat and driving them all over the world. Looking back at it now, I think it just so happened that this third and last child was never given any toys! I am so, so, so thankful to God for making those dreams come true.
3. Pregnancy was nothing like what I thought it was going to be. I looked forward to it for as long as I can remember because I wanted my boobs to get bigger and to be able to eat whatever I wanted. Turns out I was so sick I lost tons of weight because I couldn't eat and I did not gain a single ounce in the breasticle department. However, I have concluded I would rather throw up everyday for 9 months to get a baby like Averie. A rough pregnancy goes away, a rough baby does not.
4. Yep, I played clarinet for 2 years and percussion for 1 year in middle school. I was a band rebel because I HATED it but my parents wouldn't let me quit so I resorted to playing the flipping cowbell my last year.
5. When I was in the 4th grade I won $1000 off the radio contest where they call out a birthday and you call in as the certain caller if its your birthday. I got to get out of school to go to Greenville to pick up my check and go to the mall and get a Minnie Mouse watch. I'm pretty special because my picture was in the Transylvania Times.
6. I have broken each of my wrists twice. Left at age 8, right at age 12, left at age 16, and right at age 20. Can you say arthritis? I had to give my grandmother's cast iron cookware away because my gimpy wrists couldn't pick it up. Oh, and I also have to bowl over-handed because my wrists don't turn the way you need them to when you bowl. Thankfully though, the every four year alternating streak seems to be broken.
7. My first car was a 1994 White Ford Escort with cowprint interior and fake rims from Wal-Mart. It had such special features as automatic head decapitating seat belts, intermittent headlights while you were driving down a dark road at night and also the ability to remove the key from the ignition while the car was moving. At like 60. On the interstate. But I loved her and she loved me and I'll never forget the feeling of freedom as I peeled out of the soccer lot at the high school with Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot blasting Sock it to Me at top volume headed to the car wash to spray Mexican scented air freshener under the seat. Oh precious memories. Her name was Judy by the way.
8. My wedding day was absolutely perfect and better than I dreamed of. Except for the part where my uninvited mother-in-law showed up 10 minutes before I walked down the aisle and my mom stormed out to her kick butt stopped herself because she realized we were in a church after all. Then said mother-in-law proceeds to our reception site (25 minutes from the church) where she and 2 other rascals grabbed food off the buffet with their hands, stuffed their faces and left. It's bad when your own side of the family apologizes for you...
9. I have ZERO athletic ability. I played right field for the Angels in middle school and learned how to make perfect clover necklaces. If you've ever heard Adam Sandler's version of the right fielder that is me to a T. I pee myself every time I hear it. Go google it if you don't know what I'm talking about.
10. I have a very specific way I eat certain foods. Chocolate hostess cupcakes - turn upside down, eat cake part first then lick the icing left standing in the middle then eat the frosting. KitKats - break into individual pieces, eat the chocolate from the sides, scrape chocolate off top, eat top layer, scrape filling out with teeth, eat next layer, repeat. Pop-tarts - eat nonfrosted sides first, then unfrosted back, then scrape out filling, then eat the frosted top. I also eat all the yucky lettuce and vegetables out of a salad leaving only the cheese, bacon, and croutons to eat last as the salad's dessert.
11. I really miss living in Boone. For some reason we wanted to leave there. On the plus side - we are now close to family. On the negative - we are now close to family. Brevard was much cooler the first time around. I think if given the chance Eli and I would move back in a heartbeat. I miss CookOut, the dog park, Chick-fil-a, and our little townhouse. And my awesome job in the Registrar's office and the great friends I worked with there. That experience has made me realize the grass is always greener on the other side. It also makes me worry that I will never really be happy. I've give anything to go back to those days, only I'd have to have Averie with me.
12. My sister and I have a very complicated relationship. We can get along as long as text is our only form of communication. My brother likes me better than her because he got Count Chocula cereal when I was born. I still don't know why she hates me.
13. I really loved my major in college. Industrial/Organization Psychology with a minor in Business. Sounds really official, doesn't it? Too bad you can do NOTHING with it in a place like Brevard. I do however love psychology and business because they affect all of us (um hello we all have to deal with disgruntled, unhappy employees). I hope one day I can do something fulfilling with it.
14. My mom really is my best friend. I tell her everything. I hope I can be as good a mom to Averie. Somehow my mom was always my mom first and my friend second and she always knew when I needed each one. She rocks my socks off and I am so, so thankful to have her.
15. I could eat at Chick-fil-a everyday. And I did for 3 straight years while I lived on campus at ASU.
16. Sometimes I really miss college dorm life. I had all my best friends next door or on the next floor, class 3 or 4 hours a day, endless naps, vending machines in my basement, I could skip showers and wear PJs to class, and NO GROWN UP RESPONSIBILITIES.
17. I wish I could learn how to take better pictures. Its not for lack of practice - I just don't have an eye for it.
18. I used to be a clean freak. You should see my house now. It's funny how times and priorities change.
19. I am still a hand sanitizer freak. I used hand sanitizer before hand sanitizer was cool. I'm talking like when I was in the 9th grade (wow that was 13 years ago). I don't think any germs can survive on my hands.
20. Being a mom has come much easier than I though it would. I used to worry that I wouldn't know how to take care of a baby. But it is really true, you just know what to do with them. They really aren't that complicated. Ask me again in a year when we learn the word no.
21. Being pregnant, although I was sick for most of it, and Averie's birth was really a special time in our marriage. We had so much fun planning for her arrival and future and I feel like we grew and bonded more than ever. Eli was the most awesome labor coach I could have ever hoped for. I know I could not have made it through without him. He was there for me and knew what I needed even when I didn't and stayed calm and strong and supportive and kind through the whole thing. Seeing him hold our baby for the first time made my heart feel like it was literally going to burst. I thank God for giving me such an awesome man and awesome father for Averie.
22. I hate to buy shoes for myself because my feet are so big I should just wear the box. However, my child has probably 20 or 25 pairs of shoes. She is 6 months old. I know, I have a problem.
23. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong generation. I would have loved to lived during the 50s and been one of those perfect housewives that wears heels and pearls and has everything together. The 50s version of me would have been appalled at the McDonalds/Zaxbys dinner we ate at the coffee table in front of the tv tonight.
24. My dad is one of the most genuine, caring people I have ever known. He has such a strong, quiet faith about him that shows in everything he does. He has truly been an example of how a person should live their life and I am so grateful for him. Its so cool to see him now with Averie and how he melts into a huge pile of granddaddy mush when she is around. It makes me picture how he was with me when I was a baby.
25. I have had many jobs through the years and feel I have learned something from each of them. I still keep in touch with people I worked with while I was in high school. I think that having a job is one of the best things you can do as a teenager because it teaches you real life lessons you have to experience to learn. Working swing shifts in a laminate factory during summer breaks in college gives you a perspective on life that can't be learned from a book.
26. This was way too long but also a nice reflection. The most important thing about me is how much I love my precious angel baby girl and my wonderful husband and how I am so grateful to God for giving them to me.
